Hi and welcome to “Abound in Grace” once more. I trust a lovely weekend was had by all. To-day we are going to discuss the basis of eternal judgement.

The dictionary defines judgment as: To examine, study, evaluate and uncover in order to arrive at a verdict as to whether a reward or condemnation is deserved. It depends on the result of the investigation.

  • The Word of God.

John.12:48-50. (Amp) Anyone who rejects Me and persistently sets Me at naught, refusing to accept My teachings, has his judge [however]; for the [very] message that I have spoken will itself judge and convict him at the last day. This is because I have never spoken on My own authority or of My own accord or as self-appointed, but the Father Who sent Me has Himself given Me orders [concerning] what to say and what to tell. And I know that His commandment is (means) eternal life. So whatever I speak, I am saying [exactly] what My Father has told Me to say and in accordance with His instructions.

(Mess) I came to save the world. But you need to know that whoever puts me off, refusing to take in what I’m saying is willfully choosing rejection. The Word, the Word-made-flesh that I have spoken and that I am, that Word and no other is the last word. I’m not making any of this up on my own. The Father who sent me gave me orders, told me what to say and how to say it. And I know exactly what his command produces: real and eternal life. That’s all I have to say. What the Father told me, I tell you.”

If God had not said anything or put forward any conditions, we would not have been under any obligation or judgment. The first thing God did after giving man authority over creation was to lay down the conditions for this authority and that was the test of obedience and submission.

Gen.1:28. (Amp) And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful (prosper), multiply (reproduce), and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.

You see God has put forth His Word and told us to prosper, please be obedient.

Gen.2:15-17. (Amp) And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

Mans duty was to cultivate and keep or preserve the garden from all intruders. The Hebrew word used for to keep means to hedge about, guard and to protect. This is the first reference to an enemy of God and man.

  • We are accountable to the Word of God.

We are to be judged according to our obedience to the Word of God. There is no other basis for judgment. Any kind of judgment is based on the word of the governing body, if it is not written it is not valid.

  • Jesus is the Word of God.

John.1:1-3. 14. (Amp) In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honour, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favour, loving-kindness) and truth.

Rev.19:13. (KJV) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Jesus and the Word are synonymous terms. Jesus is the Word of God manifest in the flesh.

  • Jesus is the sin offering.

2Cor.5:21. (Amp) For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

Jesus is the standard by which the whole world is to be judged eternally. Jesus is Gods sin offering whereby sin was condemned in the flesh.

Ez.18:20. (Mess) The soul that sins is the soul that dies. The child does not share the guilt of the parent, nor the parent the guilt of the child. If you live upright and well, you get the credit; if you live a wicked life, you’re guilty as charged.

The word soul used here is the Hebrew word “nephesh” and it means a breathing creature, a person. The basis for eternal judgment and eternal punishment is the Word of God. God saw the weakness of the flesh in being able to be obedient and He did something about it.

Rom.8:3. (Amp) For God has done what the Law could not do, [its power] being weakened by the flesh [the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit]. Sending His own Son in the guise of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, [God] condemned sin in the flesh [subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice].

The judgment of death which the Word of God required was carried out and the punishment of death on sin was executed on the cross when Jesus died.

2Cor.5:21. (Amp) For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

John.16:8-9. (Amp) And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment: About sin, because they do not believe in Me [trust in, rely on, and adhere to Me].

There is only one sin that condemns a person to eternal punishment and that is the fact that the person does not believe in Jesus, he does not commit himself to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that was made by God on his behalf.

John3:18-21. (Amp) He who believes in Him [who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him] is not judged [he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgment; for him there is no rejection, no condemnation, he incurs no damnation]; but he who does not believe (cleave to, rely on, trust in Him) is judged already [he has already been convicted and has already received his sentence] because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [He is condemned for refusing to let his trust rest in Christ's name.]

Believers need to meditate and believe John.3 where it says “He who believes in Him [who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him] is not judged [he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgment].

2Cor.5:19. (Amp) It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favour with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favour).

Hebr.10:29. (Amp) How much worse (sterner and heavier) punishment do you suppose he will be judged to deserve who has spurned and [thus] trampled underfoot the Son of God, and who has considered the covenant blood by which he was consecrated common and unhallowed, thus profaning it and insulting and outraging the [Holy] Spirit [Who imparts] grace (the unmerited favour and blessing of God)?

When people treat the blood of Jesus lightly and have no regard for the price God paid to forgive their sins, they insult the Spirit of grace. If you are trying to please God by dead works then you are considering the covenant blood not good enough to save you, hence your works program. Salvation is by faith and grace alone.

2Cor.6:1-2. (Amp) Labouring together [as God's fellow workers] with Him then, we beg of you not to receive the grace of God in vain [that merciful kindness by which God exerts His holy influence on souls and turns them to Christ, keeping and strengthening them, do not receive it to no purpose]. For He says, In the time of favour (of an assured welcome) I have listened to and heeded your call, and I have helped you on the day of deliverance (the day of salvation). Behold, now is truly the time for a gracious welcome and acceptance [of you from God]; behold, now is the day of salvation!

Thanks for joining me, it’s time for me to say “till next time”. Have a really happy day and go rejoicing in the fact that you will never stand before God for judgement of sin as you have already been judged in Jesus. Be a blessing and share this with someone else, and spread His great love all around.

If you have never made Jesus your personal Lord and Saviour then consider 2Cor.6: For He says, In the time of favour (of an assured welcome) I have listened to and heeded your call, and I have helped you on the day of deliverance (the day of salvation). Behold, now is truly the time for a gracious welcome and acceptance [of you from God]; behold, now is the day of salvation!

Receive this promise by faith and  prayer the following prayer:

“Father, it is written in Your Word that if I confess with my mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in my heart that You have raised Him from dead, I shall be saved. Therefore, Father, I confess that Jesus is my Lord. I make Him Lord of my life right now. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead. I renounce my past life with Satan. “I thank You for forgiving me of all my sin. Jesus is now my Lord, and I am a new creation. Old things have passed away. Now all things become new in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
