Hi and welcome once again to “Abounding Grace”. We have been studying the laws of the Spirit and are about to conclude “The law of confession” to-day with a study of “The shield of faith”. I trust you have been blessed by what has been shared and that you have shared it with others so that they could be blessed too.
Faith is not only receiving from God and having our needs met, that is a part of faith, but there is another dimension to faith that is often overlooked and that is; faith is a protective force. Eph.6 talks about faith as a very important part of the armour of God.
Eph.6:11, 14-16. (Amp) Put on God’s whole armour [the armour of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, and having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].
We are warned by the Word of God that the devil will come against us with wiles, craftiness and deception, but God has equipped us with an armour that enables us to stand and resist his arsenal. Please note the importance accredited to the shield of faith.
Eph.6:16. (Amp) Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].
In other words don’t leave home without your shield. The word here for shield describes the shield as something that could cover a cave mouth, so we are talking of a very large shield, about door size, not only is it very large but it is also extremely effective, it quenches all the fiery darts of the wicked. Now remember that the word wicked means “hurtful” so we understand that Satan is out to hurt us, but on the other hand the word quench means: to extinguish; put out; render ineffective and to nullify, all the darts that he has to hurt us with, the word “all” leaves no exceptions, all means all. The shield of faith is impenetrable and there is no wile that the devil has that can get through the shield of faith. The word wiles means strategies or deceptions and that is how Satan comes at us, he uses strategies and a strategy is the art of moving or disposing of troops as to impose upon the enemy the place and time and conditions for fighting preferred by oneself, but if we are diligent in keeping the shield of faith raised as we are instructed to do then we can’t get caught unawares. We are to diligently meditate on the Word of God, believe it, speak it and act on it and then we will see the same kind of results the disciples saw.
Luke.10:17-19. (KJV) And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Jesus sent out seventy of His disciples and empowered them to do what He had being doing and when they returned they received a life changing revelation “and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. In the Greek this means much more than just nothing, it means: none; not at all; no way at anytime can anything hurt you. We all have to make the quality decision as to whether or not we are going to take the Word of God seriously, Jesus was asked by the disciples why they could not cast the evil spirit out of a little boy and Jesus replied.
Matt.17:20. (Mess) “Because you’re not yet taking God seriously,” said Jesus. “The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, “Move!’ and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn’t be able to tackle.”
Does the Bible mean what it says? Do we have to read between the lines in some instances? Or did Jesus really mean that if we would follow and obey Him like the seventy did that we would have power and authority to trample on the things that sting, bite, hurt and poison us? We all have to decide for ourselves, do we walk by sight and reasoning, or do we walk by what the Word of God promises us?
Ps.91:10. (Amp) There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.
As long as we are standing, confessing and believing what the Word says then we will be safe, but we have to be bold and declare what God says. I often get asked the question as to why some or other bad thing happened to a certain good Christian person, or why did God allow it to happen? We as Christian people don’t automatically walk in God’s promises just because we got saved, we walk in the promises because we accept them by faith, we take God’s Word seriously. It has to do with being a believer of the Word, we can by believing, confessing, and standing in faith raise up the mighty shield of faith and have a barrier of health; protection, prosperity and whatever other promise we can find around about us.
Ps.91:4. (Amp) [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.
When will that happen?
Ps.91:2. (Amp) I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!
When we say of the Lord.
I’m not saying that you won’t have any trials or attacks, I’m saying that whatever is fired at you can’t hurt you; it can’t get to you.
Ps.91:7. (Amp) A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.
Every time we have been hurt or hit it was because we lowered our shield of faith, the enemy is always on the prowl.
1Pet.5:8. (Amp) Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
(Mess) Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping.
It is never O.K. to drop the shield of faith as that makes us open targets, remember in this fight of faith there is no ceasefire. It would be nice if we never experienced any trials or attacks but that is most unlikely, yet, each time we are delivered out of one it a demonstration of the keeping power of God, a testimony to His faithfulness and miraculous working power. We find examples of this throughout the Word of God.
The three Hebrew children were not delivered from being thrown into the fiery furnace, but they believed God, they raise the shield of faith and said:
Dan.3:17. (Amp) If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
Paul wasn’t delivered from the shipwreck but went through it. Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den but come out untouched. In none of the aforementioned incidents did they doubt, fear, rationalize or ask “God why did You let this happen? That would have lowered their shield of faith, in the midst of bad situations God protected those who trusted him and will do the same for us. The thing we need to understand is that everything we receive from God we receive by faith. Every day we must decide if we are going to believe what the Word says or are we going to go by experiences, sight or feelings. If we keep our shield of faith raised nothing can hurt us because it can’t get through faith, the reason being that the faith that is in us come out of God Himself, it is a portion of the same substance that created the universe.
Rom.12:3. (KJV) For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
God has dealt to every man the measure of the God kind of faith is what the actual rendering of that verse is. It is not a measure but the measure; there is a vast difference between a measure and the measure.
1John.5:18. (KJV) We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
How do you keep yourself? In faith.
Eccl.8:5. (KJV) Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing.
You can believe the scriptures and take them literally without exception, so put on the whole armour that God has supplied for you, strap on the truth and take the sword of the Spirit and raise the might shield of faith and remember as long as you are behind the shield
Ish.54:17. (KJV) No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
Whatever you do, don’t leave home without your shield of faith.
Thank you for joining me to-day, it is time for me to say “till next time” and in the mean time don’t forget to share the Word and spread His love all around you, be blessed and have a happy day.
If you have not yet made a quality decision to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour then I would like to extend that invitation to you right now, there is nothing you can do to become a part of the family of God except bow your head and prayer the following prayer from your heart and receive the gift of righteousness from the hand of the Father, so don’t procrastinate, go for it:
“Father, it is written in Your Word that if I confess with my mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in my heart that You have raised Him from dead, I shall be saved. Therefore, Father, I confess that Jesus is my Lord. I make Him Lord of my life right now. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead. I renounce my past life with Satan. “I thank You for forgiving me of all my sin. Jesus is now my Lord, and I am a new creation. Old things have passed away. Now all things become new in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
